Sun Protocol ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") is a wellness timer application designed to guide users through structured sun exposure and shade recovery cycles. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and what choices you have.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Sun Protocol mobile application and related web experience.
Important Health and Safety Notice
Sun Protocol is a wellness and timing tool. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.
Sun exposure can cause sunburn, skin damage, premature skin aging, eye damage, and may increase the risk of skin cancer. Individual sensitivity to sunlight varies based on skin type, health conditions, medication use, UV index, geographic location, altitude, season, cloud cover, and other factors.
You are responsible for using your own judgment and following appropriate sun safety guidance. Consider consulting a qualified healthcare professional if you have sensitive skin, a history of skin cancer, photosensitivity, are taking medication that increases sun sensitivity, or have any medical concern.
Information We Collect
Sun Protocol is designed to collect as little personal information as practical.
Information stored locally on your device
The App may store the following information locally on your device:
- current cycle and segment progress;
- timer state;
- app preferences, such as voice cue or chime mode;
- local app settings required to provide the core timer experience.
This information is used to operate the App and keep the protocol state consistent. It is not intentionally sent to our servers.
Information collected through Firebase
Sun Protocol uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics, services provided by Google LLC, to understand general app usage, improve app performance, and diagnose crashes. These services may collect app interaction data, crash logs, device information, app version, operating system version, and app instance identifiers. This information is used only to improve the reliability, safety, and quality of the app.
Firebase Analytics may collect information about how users interact with the App, such as app opens, general usage events, device type, operating system version, app version, and app instance identifiers.
Firebase Crashlytics may collect crash reports and diagnostic information, such as crash traces, timestamps, device model, operating system version, app version, and installation identifiers. According to Firebase documentation, Crashlytics keeps crash stack traces and associated identifiers for 90 days before beginning deletion from live and backup systems.
Information We Do Not Collect
Sun Protocol does not intentionally collect:
- your name;
- email address;
- phone number;
- precise GPS location;
- payment information;
- account login information;
- photos;
- contacts;
- calendar information;
- health records;
- biometric information;
- skin type or medical history.
If future versions of the App add account features, cloud sync, subscriptions, or other services that require additional data, this Privacy Policy will be updated before or when those features are introduced.
How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
- to provide the App's timer, cycle, voice cue, chime, shade, and progress features;
- to preserve local app state on your device;
- to understand general app usage and improve the user experience;
- to detect, diagnose, and fix crashes or technical problems;
- to improve reliability, safety, and performance;
- to comply with legal, platform, and security obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Third-Party Services
The App uses Firebase services provided by Google LLC, including Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.

Data Sharing
We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate, analyze, maintain, or improve the App. At this time, this primarily means Firebase services provided by Google LLC.
We may also disclose information if required to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or the App.
Data Retention
Local app data remains on your device unless you clear the App's storage, uninstall the App, or use device settings that remove the data.
Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics data is retained according to Google's Firebase retention practices. Firebase documentation states that Crashlytics keeps crash stack traces and associated identifiers for 90 days before beginning deletion from live and backup systems.
Your Choices and Controls
You can control or remove App data by:
- uninstalling the App;
- clearing the App's storage through your device settings;
- restricting app permissions through your device settings, where available;
- limiting ad personalization or resetting device advertising identifiers through your device settings, where available.
Sun Protocol does not currently provide user accounts, so there is no in-app account profile to delete.
Permissions and Background Activity
Sun Protocol may use local device capabilities to provide timer, audio cue, foreground service, notification, and background timing functionality. These features are used to support the protocol timer and voice cue experience.
The App does not use these permissions to collect precise location, contacts, photos, microphone recordings, or other unrelated personal content.
Children's Privacy
Sun Protocol is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
International Users
If you use Sun Protocol outside your country of residence, your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate. Privacy and data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date above. Material changes may also be communicated through the App or app store listing where appropriate.
